Custom PP Corrugated Box Quotation Checklist | Jinmai

What Information Is Needed for a Custom PP Corrugated Box Quotation?

To prepare a custom PP corrugated box quotation, provide the packed product and application, required inner dimensions, product weight and total load, packing quantity and orientation, estructura de caja, PP sheet thickness and GSM if already specified, cantidad de pedido, printing and accessory needs, special performance requirements, and delivery location. Drawings, photos or a sample help reduce assumptions. If some specifications are unknown, mark them “to be reviewed” and describe the handling route, stacking, reuse and cleaning conditions. A preliminary quote can start with minimum information, but final pricing should follow an agreed structure, material specification and packing method.

Key Takeaways

  • A supplier can begin with basic dimensions, usar, load, quantity and destination, but missing details remain assumptions.
  • Inner size and outer size are not interchangeable. State which one controls the design.
  • Thickness and GSM describe different material characteristics; neither alone guarantees finished-box performance.
  • Foldable and fixed boxes can have different assembly, storage and freight implications.
  • ESD, conductive, UV-resistant or flame-retardant requirements need a defined property, method or customer specification.
  • Compare quotations only after confirming that material, accessories, packing, freight and documentation are included on the same basis.

Minimum Information vs a Complete Quotation Package

A preliminary quotation can start with a brief, but a production-ready proposal needs enough information to remove assumptions. Unknown specifications can be marked for review.

Information area Minimum information to begin Preferred information before sample or production approval
Packed product Product name and general use Drawing or dimensions, weight, contact restrictions, pack quantity and orientation
Tamaño de la caja Required length × width × height Clearly identified inner or outer dimensions, tolerances and any rack, cart or pallet limit
Estructura Open, tapado, foldable, fixed or with dividers Closure, manijas, joints, stacking arrangement, divider layout and assembly method
Material PP corrugated sheet or an existing reference Espesor, GSM, color, flute direction and any approved sample or specification
Use conditions Warehouse, production line, transport or export use Load, stacking, handling route, expected reuse, cleaning and environmental conditions
Commercial scope Estimated quantity and destination country Sample and production quantities, delivery postcode, packing method, trade term and target schedule

Request a Specification Review

If you know the application but have not fixed every material or structural detail, send the minimum information above. Jinmai can review the mechanical packaging requirements and identify the items that still need buyer confirmation.

Request a Specification Review

1. Describe the Product and Packing Application

A coroplast box quotation should begin with what will be packed and how the box will be used. A box for line-side component turnover may need a different structure from one used for warehouse storage, export shipment or mixed-part separation.

Provide the product name, individual dimensions, weight per item, quantity per box and preferred orientation. Identify sharp edges, exposed terminals, cosmetic surfaces or parts that must not touch. For irregular products, a drawing, loading diagram, current-packaging photo or physical sample can explain more than a generic product description.

If the box needs internal separation, state the number of cells, parts per cell, loading direction and removal direction. Link the inquiry to the corrugated plastic box divider design guide when the divider layout is a major part of the project.

2. State Whether the Dimensions Are Inner or Outer

Size information is usable only when the measurement basis is clear. Inner dimensions control product fit; outer dimensions may control racks, conveyors, return loops, pallets or vehicle space.

Write dimensions as length × width × height and label them “inside” or “outside.” If both are restricted, provide both and identify which limit has priority. Also state whether the size applies to an assembled box, a box with a lid, or the packed shipping unit.

Where fit is critical, include the product tolerance, required clearance and box tolerance from the buyer’s drawing or specification. A supplier should not invent a tight tolerance without knowing how the box will be manufactured and inspected.

3. Choose the Box Structure Around Handling and Return Logistics

Structure affects assembly, handling, storage volume and processing work. The best structure depends on the operating route rather than a universal “strongest” design.

Estructura Information to confirm Quotation implication
Foldable box Assembly method, closure, folded size and expected handling May reduce empty storage or shipping volume but requires folds, joints or fasteners to be defined
Fixed box Joint method, stacking, nesting and assembled shipping condition Can simplify use but may occupy more freight and storage volume
Lidded box Separate or attached lid, closure and stacking requirement Adds material, processing and packing considerations
Handled tote Handle position, load, carry method and edge reinforcement Requires the handle and surrounding structure to be reviewed together
Divider box Cell size, number of layers, product contact and removal direction Divider material, slots, assembly and packing must be included in scope

Jinmai’s corrugated plastic box product page shows common structure and accessory options. Treat those options as a starting point; the quotation should still identify the exact combination required for the project.

4. Specify Thickness and GSM Separately

Thickness is the overall sheet gauge, while GSM is mass per unit area. Two sheets with the same nominal thickness may not have the same material distribution, stiffness or weight. Neither value alone defines the capacity of a finished box.

Box performance can also depend on flute direction, resin formulation, wall layout, creases, joints, edge finishing, manijas, dividers and the way the load is stacked. Buyers who have an approved material should provide the thickness, GSM, color and reference sample or specification. Buyers without a fixed material can provide load and use conditions for review.

For a more detailed explanation of gauge selection, see the PP hollow sheet thickness guide. Do not copy a thickness from another box unless the product, dimensions, structure and handling route are comparable.

5. Define Load, Stacking, Handling and Cleaning

A quotation should state the mechanical conditions the box is expected to encounter. Provide weight per item, total loaded weight, stacking height or stack load, lift method and whether the box travels on racks, carts, conveyors or pallets.

Describe the route from loading to unloading. Repeated factory turnover, almacenamiento en almacén, export transport and third-party logistics expose a box to different handling. If the box will be cleaned, name the cleaning method, chemical if known, temperature and drying conditions. PP corrugated packaging is moisture-resistant and can be washable when appropriately designed, but that does not make every assembly or accessory suitable for every cleaning process.

6. Identify Functional Material Requirements Precisely

Terms such as “ESD safe,” “anti-static,” “conductive,” “UV-resistant” and “flame-retardant” are incomplete purchase specifications by themselves. State the required property, acceptance criterion, test method, test object and documentation requirement.

Para embalaje de electrónica, identify which surfaces contact the product and whether the requirement applies to the raw sheet, divider, finished component or assembled package. The ESD corrugated plastic box selection guide explains the information buyers should confirm before material approval.

Important: Color, printed symbols or a general material label do not prove electrical, UV or flame-retardant performance. Ask for evidence that matches the agreed specification and test scope.

7. List Printing, Identification and Accessories

Printing and accessories change both the finished design and processing scope. Provide artwork, colors, print location, size and any identification requirement such as item codes, handling marks or label areas.

List handles, tapas, portaetiquetas, document pockets, velcro, edge reinforcement, dividers and layer pads separately. If the quote needs to include assembly or installation, say so. A component price and an assembled-box price should not be compared as though they cover the same work.

8. Give Sample and Production Quantities

There is no responsible universal MOQ for every custom corrugated plastic box. Quantity interacts with sheet consumption, cutting and creasing setup, printing preparation, accessories, assembly and packing.

Provide the required sample quantity, estimated first production order and expected repeat volume as separate figures. A prototype used to confirm fit may not include every production process or printed detail. Ask the supplier to identify what the sample represents and what still requires production approval.

For a broader explanation of material and processing cost drivers, read the PP hollow sheet price guide.

9. Define Delivery Location, Packing Method and Trade Term

A product quotation and a delivered-cost quotation require different information. State the destination country, city and postcode, preferred transport mode, required packing method and whether boxes can ship flat or must ship assembled.

For international comparisons, name the requested Incoterms® rule and the agreed place or port instead of writing only “FOB” or “DDP.” The International Chamber of Commerce explains that Incoterms® rules allocate delivery tasks, costs and risks between seller and buyer. They do not replace a complete sales contract.

Freight is time-sensitive and may depend on packed volume, route, carrier and shipment date. The quotation should state whether freight, export packing and destination charges are included rather than presenting a shipping estimate as permanently fixed.

What Affects a Corrugated Plastic Box Price?

A custom box price is built from the agreed design and commercial scope. The following table explains the main cost drivers without pretending that one public formula can calculate every project.

Quotation factor Why it affects the scope What the buyer should provide
Sheet consumption Box dimensions, layout and waste allowance affect material use Confirmed size, structure and pack layout
Material specification Espesor, GSM, color and functional formulation affect material selection Approved specification or application conditions
Processing Corte, creasing, soldadura, fastening, sewing or edge work require different operations Structure drawing and required finish
Impresión Artwork, colors, coverage, method and setup affect production work Artwork and print specification
Accessories and dividers Manijas, tapas, label holders and internal parts add components and assembly Accessory list and divider layout
Quantity Setup and preparation are distributed across the order Muestra, first-order and repeat quantities
Packing and freight Flat-packed and assembled boxes can use different shipment volume Packing condition, destination and trade term
Inspection and documents Special sampling, reports or traceability add defined work Acceptance plan and document list

Common Quotation Mistakes

Providing a size without saying inner or outer

This can produce a box that fits the product but not the rack, or fits the rack but not the product. Label the measurement basis.

Selecting material by thickness alone

Thickness does not define GSM, construcción, processing or finished-box capacity. Provide the application and load as well as the nominal gauge.

Using “ESD safe” as the complete requirement

A broad label does not define the required property, test method, acceptance range or test object. Send the buyer’s ESD specification or mark it for technical review.

Ignoring the packed shipping condition

Freight and storage comparisons can change when one quote assumes flat packing and another assumes assembled delivery.

Comparing quotations with different inclusions

Confirm whether printing, accessories, divider assembly, export packing, freight, inspection and reports are included before comparing unit prices.

Preguntas frecuentes

Can I request a corrugated plastic box quote without a drawing?

Sí. A preliminary review can begin with product dimensions, weight, packing quantity, required inner size, use conditions, estructura, quantity and destination. Photos or a current sample help. A confirmed drawing should follow before production when fit or structure is critical.

Should I provide inner size or outer size?

Provide inner size when product fit is the main constraint and outer size when racks, carts, pallets or storage space control the design. If both are limited, provide both and identify which dimension has priority.

Are thickness and GSM the same specification?

No. Thickness is the overall sheet gauge, while GSM is mass per unit area. They should be stated separately. Finished performance also depends on flute direction, estructura, joints, processing, load and handling.

What is the MOQ for a custom PP corrugated box?

A custom box MOQ is project-specific. Order quantity interacts with material use, processing setup, impresión, accessories, assembly and packing. Send separate sample, first-order and repeat-volume estimates for a project-specific response.

What information is needed for a box with dividers?

Provide product dimensions, quantity per box, orientation, cells per layer, number of layers, loading and removal direction, contact restrictions, box inner size and whether dividers ship assembled or separately.

How should I specify anti-static, conductive, UV-resistant or flame-retardant material?

State the required property, acceptance criterion, test method, applicable standard or customer specification, test object and required report. Do not rely on color or a general marketing label as proof.

What delivery information is needed for a freight estimate?

Provide destination country, city and postcode, cantidad de pedido, packed dimensions or required packing condition, preferred transport mode, trade term and named place. Freight remains subject to route, carrier and shipment timing.
